I think...I don't know how folks feel about it. I think the expert model does make sense. Going all the way back to John Kotter's famous book, The General Managers, in the 1980s... the argument was made then that we can't adopt generalist models in many businesses. Some level of expertise is required. Moreover, if you think about managerial intuition, you would have to conclude that some level of expertise is required. Intuition, after all, is pattern recognition ability rooted in deep expertise in a particular field. Having said all that, some exposure to other fields is also critical for innovation. You can't just stay in one domain forever if you wish to be an innovative leader. So, GE will have to balance the shift to more in-depth experiences with some rotations... I don't think rotations will go away completely.Michael Robertohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01658740999927721412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38902647.post-83024390069757409582012-03-29T16:27:21.262-04:002012-03-29T16:27:21.262-04:00Professor,

Or could you perhaps talk more about industry expert model versus the generalist model?Larry Tannerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14642725101009530480noreply@blogger.com
