Tom Magness has some great posts recently on his blog about leadership transitions, based on his own experience this summer as he transitions to Kabul, Afghanistan to lead an Army Corps of Engineers unit there. Good luck to Tom, and may you stay out of harm's way.
I am a professor of management at Bryant University in Smithfield,
RI. I joined the faculty at Bryant after six years as a faculty member
at Harvard Business School. I've also spent time as a Visiting
Professor at NYU.
My research, teaching, and consulting focuses on strategic
decision-making processes and senior management teams. The Teaching
Company released my newest course - Transformational Leadership - in
June 2011. My most recent book is titled Know What You Don't Know: How
Great Leaders Prevent Problems Before They Happen,(Wharton School
Publishing, 2009). The book focuses on how leaders can become more
effective "problem-finders."
